What's New At MCC

To All Fellow Classmates of Milwaukee Careers Cooperative:
Ms. Redmond-Walker (MCC) & Ms. Peterson | I have just successfully completed the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) in all three categories: Reading, Math, and Locating Information. It was a long hard journey of consistently going through all of the KeyTrain Testing criteria in all core areas and reviewing my weak areas of concentration. Some of you might say, "Oh it was easy for her because she was a teacher". It was tougher for me because I've been out of school for a long time and my age was against me. I must admit that Locating Information was the hardest area of all three for me. When I saw that test I was sweating, trying to complete all 38 items in the time allocated. However, through hard work and dedication, I was able to get through those weak areas of Math and Locating Information. Being the first to achieve the NCRC at MCC, my words of encouragement, I leave behind to all of those who want to master all three of these tests as I have, are: 1) read carefully, 2) complete all test items, 3) if in doubt, never leave an item blank, and 4) do your best and never give up. You can do it! Anything in life is worth achieving and all things are possible for those who work hard at it. You can be an achiever of a NCR Certificate just as I am. Ms. Patsy Peterson |

Transitional Jobs Demonstration Project
The Transitional Jobs program was established to provide low income adults who are not receiving W-2 and not eligible for Unemployment Insurance Benefits with an immediate income, an opportunity to develop the skills and experience their local labor market demands, and a positive work history. It provides those without other options with longer-term career preparation and support to move to unsubsidized employment.
Additionally the program provides businesses with needed workers at no risk or expense to the business. Transitional workers add the most value to businesses that want to either stay open or expand, but cannot immediately hire and pay new employees due to reduced revenue or reduced access to short-term credit lines. By completing projects and sustaining operations when cash is tight, transitional workers help position businesses to hire more permanent employees.
MCC is one of 17 Wisconsin agencies awarded a contract to operate a Transitional Jobs Program and works cooperatively with other program operators through the Transitional Jobs Collaborative.
Wisconsin Seasonal Workforce Coalition
Milwaukee Careers Cooperative works with the Wisconsin Seasonal Workforce Coalition that includes employers and community based workforce agencies working together to coordinate 2,000 + seasonal employment opportunities across the calendar year.
