EMPLOYMENT
Milwaukee Careers Cooperative offers central city job-seekers a measure of economic stability by placing them in different types of work assignments based on their job
readiness, experience and skills. Regardless of the assignment, if the job site is in part of Metropolitan Milwaukee and not accessible by public transportation, the Cooperative provides reliable van transportation
to and from the job site for all shifts on a daily basis.
Temporary Employment
The Cooperative offers employers temporary employees for short-term or overflow assignments.
Probationary Employment
The Cooperative often enters into an agreement with companies to employ workers as temporaries for certain periods, after which they will be placed on the company’s payroll.
This agreement enables the employer to evaluate the individual over a period of time determined by the employer. It also gives the employer a highly motivated worker for who the position is not just a temporary
assignment, but a step on the path toward a career.
Employees benefit by receiving on-the-job training, building up valuable work experience and demonstrating that they have acquired job retention skills. The Co-op continues
to provide them with support and encouragement and helps them resolve workplace problems.
Permanent Employment
The Cooperative’s mission is to place people in full-time, permanent positions that pay family-sustaining wages, offer benefits and provide an opportunity for upward
mobility. MCC does not collect a fee from employers for permanent hires; the organization is subsidized for this service by a grant from the City of Milwaukee. The grant also enables MCC to provide the training and
extra support that the external employee may need in order to retain and advance n a job.
